NASA launches space telescope

The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope was launched this morning from Cape Canaveral, Fla., ready to reveal new wonders about our universe.

The telescope features a massive 300-megapixel infrared camera that captures views 100 times wider than Hubble.Cosmic Survey. It will map billions of galaxies and discover thousands of planets outside our solar system (exoplanets)

It will travel 1.5 million kilometres away, at a point called L2 where gravitational forces balance to keep satellites in a steady orbit. It is a five-year mission, with the possibility of extension.

In February, 2026, the Forum welcomed Charity Weeden, who formerly held a leadership position at NASA.
